"Early Detection Saves Lives

For years, I chose to get annual mammograms, not because I had a family history or had reached the recommended age, but because women around me, many younger than I was, were being diagnosed with breast cancer. I wanted a baseline, a reference point, so if anything ever appeared suspicious, we could address it early.

Who would have known that in November 2016, one of those routine mammograms would detect something and later be confirmed by biopsy to be breast cancer. Thankfully, it was found early and contained to one area. I had surgery that December, followed by 16 rounds of intense radiation. Today, I’m alive to share my story and advocate for others.

When people ask how I felt upon hearing the diagnosis, my answer is simple:
'What’s worse than hearing you have breast cancer? Having it and not knowing. How can you fight what you don’t even know you have?'

So to my family and friends, if you’re due or overdue for your screening, don’t wait any longer. DO it NOW.

As a Breast Cancer survivor, I can honestly say life isn’t just about surviving; it’s about THRIVING. And I do that every day by finding ways to make a difference."
